Early Detection

Have you ever heard a faint drip or seen a small puddle in the warehouse and thought, “I’ll get that next week?” While it might seem inconvenient to address it right away, that tiny drip is the first sign of a potentially massive and costly failure.

Pipe and seal leaks could be very serious, and it is super important to catch them early. When there is a constant point of moisture, corrosion acceleration is inevitable, speeding up rust and failure on bearings, electrical components, etc. Increased utility bills are another consequence, due to the wasting of water or fluid, and constant dampness can damage surrounding walls, flooring, or insulation, requiring expensive facility remediation. Most importantly, water (or any other liquids) on floors or near electrical cabinets can lead to major safety hazards, creating slip-and-fall risks for your employees.

Spotting a leak (before it becomes a crisis) is not difficult and can take just a few minutes of looking at your surroundings. Rust, mineral buildup, or discoloration around fittings and joints are good indicators of potential or current leaks. If the space also feels unusually damp or there’s an intense hot or cold spot that isn’t typical, that’s another sign something’s not right. Never ignore a puddle under a machine or pipe, even if it’s small, and always make sure to mark it and check if it grows.

When small leaks happen, there are very easy solutions for a quick fix. A tightening or replacing of a seal can often do the trick, or applying a specialized pipe wrap/epoxy (if applicable to your industry) can help as well. If the leak seems worse than anticipated, make sure to contact an expert ASAP. Ignoring it can lead to having to replace a whole section of pipe, dealing with failed electrical components, or replacing rusted machinery parts, causing major downtime in your operations.
