From Natural Disasters to Equipment Failures: Navigating Water Treatment Emergencies 

Water treatment plants are critical infrastructure to the everyday lives of people across America. But like any industry, emergencies can happen and cause major downtime and damage to operations. Natural disasters such as hurricanes, floods, and wildfires can destroy a plant’s infrastructure. Earthquakes can break water and sewer pipes, putting an immediate halt on water and sanitation services for tens of thousands of people. A power outage from such a disaster or a random blackout can disrupt critical operations, such as pumping and treatment processes. This can threaten people’s lives due to potential disease outbreaks and community panic. 

One of the major emergencies that happens more frequently than those mentioned is equipment failures, which can compromise the quality of water or treatment capacity. To prevent this from being a concern, regularly check your equipment and seek out preventative maintenance. If warning lights or error messages are continuously popping up, or there are blowouts in breakers and random issues with VFDs, these are big indicators that plant managers need to send equipment into our shop, or operations may be severely disrupted.
