Bolting Down Your New Year’s Resolutions

Bolting Down Your New Year’s Resolutions

Every New Year brings the inevitable question: ‘What are your resolutions?”

What starts with hope for new possibilities often feels like chores and dropped responsibilities by mid-January. We can “bolt down” our goals in realistic and long-term ways to accomplish a better version of ourselves by 2026.

Being specific is one of the best ways to start achieving those goals. For example, instead of saying, “I would like to eat healthier and get in shape,” say, “I’m aiming to cook four healthy dinners per week and attend hot yoga (or another exercise of choice) two times a week.” Let’s say you’re interested in writing a novel; Breaking it down into weekly word count targets makes the task feel less overwhelming than prioritizing whole chapters. Specificity gives you a smaller, more detailed, and more manageable plan than large goals that seem too big to handle.

Accountability is another crucial step to achieving your 2025 dreams. A family member, friend, or coach can act as an accountability partner to make sure you stay on track, and if you prefer to be more private about your goals, journaling, habit trackers, and progress photos can all be a great way to maintain your initiatives without help from others. If you’re achieving your goals, set up a reward system to congratulate yourself on milestones.

When putting your resolutions together this January, begin with one or two achievable goals, and instead of solely focusing on outcomes, concentrate on building sustainable habits. Connecting your resolutions to your deeper values will provide intrinsic motivation and help you stay on track during challenging times.

Flexibility is essential! Life happens, and the most imperative part of this journey is not letting a single setback derail your resolution(s). Learn from it and adjust your approach as needed. Make sure to focus on progress, not perfection, and be kind to yourself, as it will only advance you to do better.

Lasting change requires consistent effort and a commitment to self-improvement. Let’s make resolutions that truly stick and create a positive and lasting impact on our lives.
