Employee Spotlight: Getting to Know Kortnie-Reed Walker, our Administrative Assistant!

Step into the spotlight with us as we shine a light on Kortnie-Reed Walker, our Administrative Assistant at our HQ. We’ll dive deeper into what her work life looks like, the newly acquired skills she’s developed, and what inspires her.
Meet Kortnie!
What’s a typical day like for you at the front desk?
A typical day for me encompasses a little bit of everything. Primarily answering phones, but also researching companies and contacts to support the sales team. If anyone is out, I forward their emails and assist their customers. I also help Francie, Mike, and Tiffany with any projects they have going on, so they’re free to focus on managing their team.
How do you keep everything organized with so many calls and visitors?
Moving to the window desk was tough at first because answering the phone while greeting customers can be hectic, but we genuinely have some of the best and most understanding customers in the world. With Alison answering the phones, when someone comes in, I can give them the attention they need without being distracted. Also, Parks 1-6 on my phone panel are my best friends when things get crazy and the calls don’t stop 😅
What’s your favorite part about working at Industrial Repair Service?
I love that we’re a truly family-oriented environment. We all have our jokes, but at the same time, we’re there for each other during both good and challenging times. There isn’t a single face I don’t recognize, and I love just chatting with my coworkers and friends daily.
What’s one new skill you’ve learned since working here?
I mastered Excel while working here. I’m a “I’m going to figure out how to do this on my own” kind of person, so when I started working with Excel pretty regularly, I spent a lot of time asking questions and doing research, and figured out how to do what I needed to. I was able to create the Three-Month Rolling and YTD report all by myself, which Francie receives a copy of every month, to monitor the sales team’s numbers for the year.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work, I’m dull. If I’m not reading a book or listening to a true crime podcast, I spend a lot of time with my two four-year-old nephews or walking my dogs. I’m also always up for a good Netflix binge, and I recently got into diamond painting, courtesy of Tiffany, which has become my new obsession.
What’s one thing most people here don’t know about you?
I don’t think there’s anything most people don’t know about me. I’m a pretty open book. The only thing I can think of is that I get a new tattoo every year. I got my 30th one for my 30th birthday, but I’m currently 2 years behind, because I haven’t come up with anything I want 😂
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and how would you use it?
If I could have a superpower, it would be the ability to communicate with animals. I’d love to know what my dogs and cats are thinking. Sometimes, there’s very clearly nothing going on behind those cute little faces, but other times, I think to myself, “You’re legit crazy. What are you doing right now?” and it would be nice to have an answer.
Do you have a personal motto or quote that inspires you?
I have a couple of quotes that inspire me, but one of my favorites comes from my all-time favorite movie, The Lion King. The quote is “Remember who you are,” and I have it tattooed on my wrist (in Italian), as a reminder that even on hard days, as long as I’m authentically myself, I’m doing my best.
We hope you enjoyed getting to know Kortnie a little better, and we look forward to sharing next month’s spotlight with you. Stay tuned!
